Ectropion is an eversion, or rolling out, of the eyelid margin away from the eyeball. The cause of most ectropion is significant, age-related eyelid laxity.
The treatment of entropion is always surgical. The operation consists of tightening the lower eyelid tendon, i.e.
Ectropion is due to excessive laxity of the lateral canthal tendon of the lower eyelid. Therefore, the surgical tightening of this tendon usually fixes the ectropion.
Surgery to correct entropion or ectropion is performed on an outpatient basis and with local anesthesia. The surgery lasts about 30 minutes to an hour.
