The name Botox is used because this was the name of the original product manufactured by Allergan. However, there are other botulinum toxins such as Dysport and Xeomin that have been approved to treat expression lines. Botulinum toxin is a biological product that relaxes the muscles where it is applied. This decreases the pull of those muscles on the skin, which produces the wrinkles when we smile, frown or show surprise.<\/p><p>Botox should not be confused with <a href=\"\/en\/info\/dermal-fillers\/\">facial fillers<\/a> which are substances that provide volume in areas that show deflation with age. Although both products are used to rejuvenate the appearance of the face, their indications are very different. Botox and fillers can be used together to get a more harmonious rejuvenating result if they are applied correctly. Reshaping the face with both Botox and <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_self\"   href=\"\/en\/info\/dermal-fillers\/\">fillers<\/a> has become an art in cosmetic dermatology and <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_self\"   href=\"\/en\/minimally-invasive-aesthetic-surgery\/\">plastic surgery<\/a>. Perfecting this art form can only be mastered with experience and with the use of the high-quality products. There is virtually no downtime with this product and there are no major side effects. <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_self\"   href=\"\/info\/botox\/\">Botox<\/a> is most frequently used in the upper third of the face to rejuvenate a person\u2019s appearance by decreasing expression lines and wrinkles that make a person look tired, angry or aged.<\/p><p>The upper third of the face is the area that people notice when they engage others. It is also the first area of our face to show signs of aging. Horizontal forehead lines, frown lines and crow\u2019s feet, all of which are generally unwanted but most people, are mainly targeted during treatment application. Fortunately, Botox can rejuvenate this area by reducing these signs of aging. The product is applied by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon in an office setting and it is virtually painless.<\/p><p>When considering a Botox treatment, make sure that your doctor is using an original product and that he has been trained in its application. This will decrease the risk of complications. Always ask your doctor to show you the product before he injects it.
