People who suffer from entropion experience eye pain, constant tearing, red eyes, and a foreign body sensation. Entropion is caused by weakening of eyelid muscles and tendons as we age. This is a severe and potentially sight-threatening condition because it may result in permanent scarring of the surface of the eye. As a result, the eye surface is exposed to air, and the blinking mechanism is significantly affected. This produces various dry eye symptoms like itchy eyes, constant tearing, blurry vision, and an unpleasant foreign body sensation. Like entropion, ectropion is caused by tendon laxity and saggy eyelids. It may also be sequelae of facial paralysis or surgical trauma. Other causes of ectropion are skin shortage after lower eyelid cosmetic surgery or decades of sun exposure.
